Hi,

I was wanting advice on a tree to give as a gift at the end of this month.
It’s for a 70 yr old who lives in the Wairapapa so climate can be hot & dry, often windy, will get frosts as it cools down.

It’s a feature tree (main one they will look at from their loungeroom. It will replace a dead tree thsat is about 4mx4m. It’s a long way from the house (about 12m) and will border a sheep/cattle paddock and their front lawn so needs to be safe for the animals in case they choose to nibble on it.
Below it are currently a bunch of canna lilies and bulbs below it.

I had thought a Purple Sycamore Maple sounded good.
Can you give me any suggestions / ideas / advice?

Thanks

Hi Clare

Thank you for your question. Yes the tree mentioned would be lovely or the Silk tree is another lovely feature tree of this size.

Happy gardening
