Must I wait til a frost knocks down the last lot of foilage on my dahlias? Each year I dig them up and store them so I can grow other plants..this year I am getting impatient, dahlias have been broken by the wind and some look very tatty…must I wait?

Tuberous plants, like bulbs, take the ‘goodness’ out of the leaves to form bigger and stronger tubers or bulbs, so do need time for the leaves to die back at least partly before they are dug up. Lifting them any earlier will prevent this important stage from occuring properly.
