I understand it is not good practice to apply fertiliser and lime at the same time. Which product should be applied first, and how long do I need to wait before the next product can be applied?

Lime should be applied first, if it required for pH adjustment. Don’t just assume your garden needs it – it is wiser to do a pH test first. If you need to apply the lime, do so and then wait 2 to 3 weeks before you apply the fertiliser. The timing gap is particularly important when planting soft seedlings or young, delicate plants.
