All the plants that I want to grow suggest “well drained soil” in laymens terms what is the best way to achieve this?

This is best done by ensuring that they are planted in suitable areas i.e postions that will not become boggy in winter or during rainy periods. Sometimes it is necessary to improve the drainage in an area, or to add things like gypsum, coarse sand, pumice or organic matter.
