Hi
Hoping you can please help me. With a few questions:
– What is the best ground cover in Wellington climate? (I have a large hill of grass that I want to plant some ground cover over so I don’t have to weed eat in the future
– I also want to plant two small flower gardens – what are the best plants to use? Lavender? Roses?
– I need to plant hedges that I hope will grow quickly and to 2m tall. What would the best type of hedge be?
Thanks so much

Hi Emillie
Thanks for your question. Coprosma kirkii is a hardy groundcover that is tolerant of most conditions and should be good for your climate as a ground cover. Lavender is fine in free draining soil – not heavy clay; however Roses cope well in clay. Hedges that grow quickly and ideal for Wellington are Griselinia or Corokia.
Your local Plimmerton store will be able to help you with plant selection for your garden. Pop by and have a chat with perhaps a couple of photos of your garden area.
Happy gardening
