Hi. We have recently purchased a vacant section at Foxton Beach. Can you please tell me what grows in the black sand there and can also resist that westerly wind. We are a little sheltered from the westerly but will still be reasonably affected. I would like to plant some citrus and fejoas, is that reasonable?
Many thanks
Chris

Hi Christine,
No real correct answer here, it would be best to look around the neighbourhood to see what is being grown successfully. Feijoa is definitely a possibility. What you need is a first up defence plant, next layer something that can handle reasonably tough conditions then you can start looking at growing some of the more tender plants like citrus (creating a little micro climate).
Feel free to pop into your local Palmers store for more plant suggestions.
Thanks, the Palmers team
