Hi, I want to buy a Lemon, Lime or Mandarin tree for my sister in law but they live at the top of Mt Cook so it can get very windy.
Which would be the hardest and most likely to survive?
Thanks, Breanna

Hi Breanna

Thanks for your question. Yes I know the area well in Mount Cook. You will have to find some way of protecting your citrus from wind as they simply won’t survive. This could be by putting up screens or at least staking the surrounding of the tree and putting up wind break for the first five years it is in the ground to give it a chance to establish. Citrus will grow in semi shade before it will survive a windy location.

Happy gardening
