I have planted 3 Salvia Amsted having grown super tall but will soon need cutting back for winter. Label says “to cut back to 15cm to produce a fresh set of foliage and flower when required.” Does this mean I cut the whole plants back to 15cm stalks
in the ground? It seems quite radical! Thank you for your advice.

Hi Bridget,
That’s correct, they do require some heavy trimming to ensure you get nice bushy plants.
If you are in a frosty area maybe go a little higher so you have a little room to cut back further in spring if the frost got to them (say 25cm off the ground). If in a warmer area then cut back to 15cm.
Thanks, the Palmers team
