Hi we are planning to make our side garden which is 4 metres long by half a metre wide into a succulent garden with rocks succulents and creeping plants (alyssum lobelia etc) as well. Could you please tell me what sort of soil should i have for these plants normal everyday soil with compost added or do succulents require something extra. This garden gets full sun and is quite dry. I live in Te Awamutu so in winter we get frosts but will be covering it with frost cloth anyway.
Thank you for your help
Kind Regards

Hi,

I bought this Button Bush couple month back from Palmers Rotorua, and I grew it in the pot approx size 5×5 and now starting to look yellowish-not greenish color. What should I do to help this plant back to normal?

As well as for my Boronia, same case. Appreciate if you could give me some advice for it.

Thank you.

Hi,

I recently bought a fig tree from Palmers but as soon as I planted it in to its new home (large pot) it lost all its leaves and looks like it’s dying.

Do fig trees typically suffer when transplanted and it’s likely it will spring back to good health once it has settled? Or is it a sign of an inappropriate environment or compost and it needs urgent attention?

Thanks,
Barbara

Hi there, my boyfriend has a potted Sophora molloyi dragons gold kowhai tree that has been looking sickly for the past couple of weeks. It has always been a sparse spindly kind of tree with very thin trunk and branches, and is only small being about 1 meter wide and 0.5 meter high. It was repotted into a larger pot nearly 12 months ago and seemed to be doing well until recently. The leaves have almost all turned yellow and the thin branches seem to be wilting a lot. My boyfriend thinks this started after he didn’t water it for a week, but has been watering it daily since then with no obvious benefit. Is our tree salvageable??

I have a blueberry growing in a pot. Good fruiting this first year. The plant has produced several quite long, new growth stems. Do I allow these to continue growing or should I prune them, and if so when and by how much? Also when and with what should I feed it? I have heard that blueberries like pine needles around their base – is there any substance to this story?

We have two large michelia figo growing close to each other. One started having a band/section of yellow leaves 4 weeks ago – about half way up. Now those leaves are dead and most of the leaves below this seem to be yellowing. The other tree has some random leaves turning yellow as well. Don’t want to lose these trees. What might be causing it, is there anything we can do?

We have a Luisa Plum Tree that we bought with us when we shifted to Greerton. We have lost a lot of fruit with the high winds we have had recently. The fruit still seems to be dropping even as it is getting bigger. Is the tree lacking in something? We keep it well watered and has good drainage

Is dethatching just a hard rake or done by some other means?

We have lots of small toadstools which pop up each day in our reasonably new lawn. Is there some product to combat them? I have been pulling them out but not all come out with their roots intact. (Pity they aren’t mushrooms!!)

Is is necessary to ease up in the winter months on our sprinkling system watering every second day?

Many thanks for your response to the above queries

John

Hi, I planted a rhubarb last summer and everything I read said not to harvest the first years crop but to let it die back over winter to feed the root stock. I did this even though my plant was a triffid. It’s now spring and my plant us still quite large.should I cut it all back to allow for new growth or should I leave it.
Cheers TJ

We have a clay slope in our backyard which we want to plant out on. What plants will grow well in clay and are easy to maintain on a slope as it is not an area that is easy to get to or maintain?

Thanks
