Hi there

I have this Vine Weevil grub killing my Blueberries. As it is living in the ground how can I get rid of it? Any speedy advice would be great thanks as the garden centres I have asked at have been unable to give me an answer.

Thanks.

Hi there,
Could you please suggest an effective way of ridding my garden of oxalis? I am tired of pulling up these persistent weeds but do not wish to use anything that might kill my plants.

Thanks for your advice.

We have exactly the same indoor plant as you have on your email – just above where it is suggested we ask any question. i.e.. bright red flowers and dark green leaves.

How moist should the soil be for these and should they be in sunlight indoors?

Hi there!

I just bought a Golder Special grapefruit tree and a Meyer lemon dwarf from your shop.
Then when I got home I read on your website that it’s better to do the planting in the spring.

My question is: should I plant them now or should I wait for the spring (I live in Tokoroa)?

Also if it is better to wait, I guess I should keep them indoors, right?
Should I put them in a room without heating or is it better to put them in a heated space?

Thank you in advance!

I have some black powdery stuff on the leaves of my cistrus trees and a white, almost cankerous stuff, on the rose stems. What do I use to fix these problems?

Hi, I planted a rhubarb last summer and everything I read said not to harvest the first years crop but to let it die back over winter to feed the root stock. I did this even though my plant was a triffid. It’s now spring and my plant us still quite large.should I cut it all back to allow for new growth or should I leave it.
Cheers TJ

I have a blueberry growing in a pot. Good fruiting this first year. The plant has produced several quite long, new growth stems. Do I allow these to continue growing or should I prune them, and if so when and by how much? Also when and with what should I feed it? I have heard that blueberries like pine needles around their base – is there any substance to this story?

Our small kowhai trees have been very troubled by the presence in HUGE numbers of the kowhai caterpillar. I understand they will not kill the tree but they certainly make it look unsightly. Is there a way to deter/ exterminate these voracious critters? This year I stopped counting at 1000 squashed caterpillars, but this method did take a concerted effort!!!

We have a Luisa Plum Tree that we bought with us when we shifted to Greerton. We have lost a lot of fruit with the high winds we have had recently. The fruit still seems to be dropping even as it is getting bigger. Is the tree lacking in something? We keep it well watered and has good drainage

Is dethatching just a hard rake or done by some other means?

We have lots of small toadstools which pop up each day in our reasonably new lawn. Is there some product to combat them? I have been pulling them out but not all come out with their roots intact. (Pity they aren’t mushrooms!!)

Is is necessary to ease up in the winter months on our sprinkling system watering every second day?

Many thanks for your response to the above queries
