I live in a flat with minimal garden area. Could I successfully grow pots of Wildflowers or do they have to be planted directly into an outdoor garden and soil?

1)My rose plant has just started growing leaves (perhaps a few weeks now), but now they’re already riddled with ?orange rust?…seeing orange spots on the leaves as it was before having been pruned. Does that immediately happen? I feel sorry for the young leaves being attacked by this. What could I have done or what can I do to stop this escalating?

2) My gardenia plant has always been coated with black soot both on leaves and stems. Since then it has remained small, leaves are small and yellowed (not a dark green colour) and has not flowered since then. What can I do? I’ve been trying to wash it off with water spray and even bought neem oil (but had not been very regular using it 🙂 ). Still the black soot is present. What more can I do?

A blackbird steals my ripe cherry tomatoes! I tried hanging CDs and pieces of string, but it didn’t work. It would be too expensive to have netting over the whole area. Is there a way to scare blackbirds, a plant they don’t like the smell of? Something natural that wouldn’t hurt them, but it would let me have my tomatoes!

My neighbours have had to cut out a large flowering cherry that filled my kitchen window with wonderful blossoms in spring and seemed to be a happy roost for Tui’s. Were they feeding on nectar from the tree? There are lots of trees in the area but I would like to keep them coming to our patch.

I don’t have room for a flowering cherry but I could plant a vine of some sort to train up along a 6 foot high corrugated iron fence, and up and over a pergola. At ground level it would only get midday and mid afternoon sun, but the site would be warm because the back of the fence would get all afternoon sun.

Ideally I would like something ever green (I was prepared to deal with the cherry tree leaves in exchange for the birds and blossom but given the chance I’d like to get rid of that issue).

Any suggestions?

A narrow garden up against a fence. Get’s sun on and off in the summer..am able to grow veges there..but ..in the winter is cold and wet…no sun at all .. but bright light There’s a problem with water rat’s and possum’s so I’ve gone off growing veges in the summer What can I grow there all year round. I’d like some flowers and colour not big enough for tree’s or large bushes. Could grow on the fence as well.

My best friend called Cathie passed away the other day and I would dearly love to give her son and grandson the rose named Catherine to plant in remembrance. I am struggling to find where to get one and am hoping you may have the answer.
Cathie was the best, most lovely friend anyone could have and I really want to do this.

Please can you help?

Kind Regards

I want to learn to grow swan plants please.
Do you buy n plant Swan plants in clusters, or in separate pots?
When is best time, best season in year to buy these? Are they an indoor or outdoor plant to grow?
Do they grow best in pots or in the garden?
What plant feed? Do they need? Can they grow with buddy plants? around them If so, what kind? Where do you get the caterpillars? or butterflies? to start off with..Thank You

Hi – How can I boost the growth on the A /Banana palm ? Have tried sheep pellets and blood and bone but it looks stunted. Has been in a few months. Ordered from Palmer’s Albany. Will it get a growth spurt in the warmer months ? The soil was prepared with potting mix.

Thanks
Pamela

We have a shaded area at the front of the property. There are flaxes, agaves and olive tree planted and the garden does not get much sunlight. We are looking at planting small spreading plants to fill in the area with little maintenance. We have looked at grasses too. What else can we plant that also would add color to the green foliage from the other plants?
