Cool Summer Style with Cacti and Succulents

Even if your green thumb isn’t so green, succulents are the perfect plant for drought conditions, large containers, small flowerpots or unusual planters, plus they’ll be fine if you forget to water them for a week or two! Available in a range of hues and in an interesting mix of textures and sizes – there’s something for everyone! Succulents are perfect for potting together, or mixing with other plants. Here are our favourite tips on how to style your home with succulents.

Experiment with size, colour and texture

Try bunching your succulents together for an interesting visual and colorful effect. Give in to the temptations of Echeveria with vibrant rosettes, add some drama with the hanging Donkey’s Tail and String of Pearls or add in the Instagram-worthy Jade plant.

Perfect pairing

Look for unique planters that make a statement. You’d be surprised what people use for planters, just make sure that your chosen vessel has adequate drainage. The planting options are endless to, create a dramatic planter with difference varieties, or plant lots of little containers and make an arrangement in your chosen spot. With that being said, cacti in cans anyone?

Go vertical

You aren’t confined to tables, benches and flat surfaces, transform your succulent into a piece of wall art. Cacti and succulents are the best for this because they require little watering and can therefore be placed nearly anywhere, add interest to a bare wall by fixing them in a random pattern or in a straight line for maximum impact. Create a succulent wreath, plant in a hanging basket, on a vertical wall planter or living frame.

Create your own

Terrariums are an excellent coffee table centrepiece and are a great way to showcase a variety of cacti and succulents. To start, you’ll need a glass container, glass pebbles or stones, cacti and succulents and potting mix, you can even add decorative elements for a fun touch like small animal figurines or sea shells.
