Swan Plants are an attractive bush with fascinating clusters of large, unusual, swan-like seed pods. Widely grown as the main host plant for the Monarch Butterfly, Swan Plants are a traditional favourite for kids, to watch the butterfly life cycle unfold.
Sow direct where they are to grow. Scatter seed thinly, cover with Yates Black Magic Seed Raising Mix, firm down and water gently. Thin plants later to 1 metre apart. Choose a sunny position. Smaller plants can be completely eaten by Monarch caterpillars, so It's best to grow a number of plants to ensure enough food. Swan plants are toxic to people and livestock, and the milky sap can cause skin reactions, so wear gloves, protect your skin and eyes from sap, and wash hands afterwards. Plant height 1.5m | Germination 14 - 21 days | Flowering 14 - 16 weeks
