Stevia is a natural, calorie-free sugar substitute for beverages and food. Stevia has a powerfully sweet flavour - two fresh leaves are enough to sweeten a cup of coffee or tea. Leaves can be used fresh, dried, finely ground, or in a liquid extract. Stevia is a frost-sensitive perennial, and needs to be brought inside or kept under glass over Winter. Ideal as a potted herb in the kitchen. Frequent picking keeps the plants bushy. Stevia is best harvested as it begins to flower, when the stevioside compound that gives stevia its sweetness is at its highest.
