Kamokamo is a treasured squash variety, with a delicious nutty flavour. The speckled green fruit has distinctive ribs, and if harvested young can be used like a courgette. Larger mature fruit are best cooked like a pumpkin. Delicious pan-fried, roasted, mashed with butter, boiled or in fritters. For early sowing, raise in pots of Yates® Black Magic® Seed Raising Mix in a well-lit, protected spot. Transplant after 3-4 weeks. For direct sowing press 2-3 seeds into mounds of moist soil 1m apart. Later thin to the strongest plant. Kamokamo needs plenty of space for the vines to trail or climb. For heavier crops, brush pollen from male flowers onto female flowers (female flowers have a swollen bump at the base of the flower). Keep well mulched. Germination 6 - 10 days | Maturity 15 - 17 days
